Katy Perry kicked off the first night of New York’s Fleet Week festivities in Red Hook, Brooklyn with a private, outdoor concert for hundreds of sailors from around the world. She greeted the cheering crowd in a dazzling patriotic dress that unfurled into Old Glory when she opened her arms and exclaimed, “Hello, Fleet Week! You guys ready to have some fun?”

Perry sang “Wide Awake,” a new song from her upcoming 3-D concert film, Katy Perry: Part of Me, which will be released July 5 by Paramount’s Insurge. The concert concluded with an impressive display of pyrotechnics and fireworks set against the Manhattan skyline as Perry belted out the lyrics to “Fireworks” and the crowd-pleasing “California Gurls.”

Perry is kissing a 20-year-old Marine in the photo above, chosen from the crowd by the songstress to recreate the iconic WWII photo of a sailor’s kiss in Times Square.

Hear from Perry on giving the sailors a much-deserved party in the MTV News interview below.
