More than a thousand Turtles fans descended on MCM Expo London Comic Con to catch an exclusive sneak peek of Nickelodeon’s hotly anticipated mutation in progress, the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, presented by Rich Magallanes, Senior Vice President of Current Series at Nickelodeon Animation, and original Turtles co-creator, Kevin Eastman.
The panel presentation was moderated by comic artist and writer Nick Roche and featured extensive new art (cityscape, gadgets and vehicles), plus character art of the new Turtles along with Splinter, April, Shredder and the Kraang, as well as a never-before-seen clip of the Turtles in action – all in all the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is funnier and more ninja-esque than ever before.
A spirited Q&A followed giving fans the chance to ask Eastman and Magallanes anything and everything they wanted do know about the new series such as the possibility of reoccurring characters, toy availability and if the new series would feature the show’s beloved theme tune.
Those in attendance were given a copy of the new Turtles comic from IDW as well as a Turtles bandana and special bottles of water wrapped with a Turtles sticker. Even if they didn’t manage to get into the standing room only theater, London Comic Con attendees (there were over 37,000 of them on Saturday, May 26 alone) could still get their shell on by visiting the Turtles Consumer Products booth to check out the new toys and have their picture taken in the Turtles photo booth. Fans could also get their Turtles comics and paraphernalia signed by Eastman during a three-hour signing session.
Response to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at London Comic Con has been fantastic. Fans have been posting, tweeting (#NickTurtles) and blogging about how impressed they are with what they have heard and seen of the new series and cannot wait for the show to premiere this autumn.
