Fresh off presenting duties at the 2012 MTV EMA in Frankfurt, Brett Davern (who plays Jake on MTV’s hit scripted show Awkward.) stopped in Warsaw for a slew of press and promotional activities, including a media tour, a filled-to-capacity screening with fans, and a special meet-and-greet session with a few lucky ladies – some of whom left in tears of joy.
Brett’s first stop in Poland was a live video chat on kotek.pl, the country’s most popular portal for teens. Thousands of fans logged in, and hundreds sent in questions — SO many fans, in fact, that Brett’s appearance drew the second largest audience EVER for the site – second only to the presidential debates two years ago.
Warsaw has such a rich history, so it was very important to Brett to visit some of the city’s most famous landmarks and tourist attractions. He stopped by the Palace of Culture and Science, the Warsaw University Library, and Old Town, an area of the city that was meticulously rebuilt after much of it was badly damaged during World War II.
Next up for Brett was several 1:1 interviews with top tier Polish press, followed by a screening of a brand new episode of Awkward. with 150+ fans, many of whom started lining up hours before the screening was set to begin. During an open Q&A with the audience, Brett practiced a few newly learned phrases in Polish, including czesc! (Hi!) andsiema! (How are you!). After the screening, Brett took time to sign autographs for dozens of fans, before moving on to a special meet-and-greet with 10 lucky contest winners who showed him specially made “Awkward” posters and professed their allegiance to Team Jake (a reference to the love triangle between Jake, Jenna and Matty that is a key storyline in the show’s second season).
Brett rounded out his trip with interviews with other top European press, a Twitter Q&A with fans in the Middle East, and a visit to the VIMN Poland offices to meet colleagues there. All in all, it was a very successful trip for Brett and MTV Poland – everything was perfectly Awkward.!
