Viacom landed on the first-ever Civic 50 list! Leading many of our peers in the media industry, Viacom topped the list that spotlights the most civically-minded corporations in the U.S.   Bloomberg LP, The National Conference on Citizenship and Points of Light, the nation’s experts on civic engagement, partnered to compile this comprehensive ranking of S&P 500 companies that best mobilize their talent and resources to improve communities.

The list which was published in November’s Bloomberg BusinessWeek , explains how each company was surveyed and evaluated on seven specific metrics:  leadership, measurement and strategy, design, employee civic growth, community partnerships, cause alignment and transparency. Viacom supports and invests in programs that address community challenges and demonstrates a strong commitment to measuring social impact.

The Civic 50 features a comprehensive, transparent methodology to identify companies that have taken a leadership role in developing and implementing civic engagement programs. We believe it will raise awareness of the importance of a civic consciousness through the U.S. corporate world” said Norman Pearlstine, Chairman, Bloomberg BusinessWeek and Chief Content Officer, Bloomberg LP.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy – we witnessed companies and small business around the country donating to the rebuilding efforts and pitching in. We are proud to be listed among companies who make giving back a priority.
