‘Buckwild’ Crew Ready to Get Muddy for a Second Season

After generating loud early buzz, MTV’s Buckwild roared onto screens last month, introducing viewers to a “wild and wonderful” group of childhood friends in Sissonville, West Virginia.  With their carefree attitudes, wild antics and freedom to do whatever they damn well please, it’s been a breath of fresh rural air watching these country boys and southern belles. And the fun promises to continue — fans got exciting news today with the announcement of a Season 2 pick-up.

With the first season of bull riding, tire rolling and trashcan lid surfing (don’t ask, just watch) coming to a close, we asked the cast about their time in front of the cameras.

West Virginia may be known for logging and coal mining, but the Buckwild crew is making headlines for another local activity: muddin,’ or high-speed off-roading in trucks with questionable shocks.

“We didn’t invent it, but muddin’ is definitely one of my favorite things to do,” said Joey, the laid back country boy with the Justin Bieber haircut. It’s also “the craziest.”  When they’re not behind the wheel, the Buckwild kids are known to create human slingshots and throw dump truck pool parties. “The dump truck pool was the coolest thing we came up with,” said all-around nice girl Katie. If nothing else, it’s a vast improvement over swimming in the waters beneath the local power plant.

Sissonville is a one-stoplight town and probably the last place you’d expect to see a camera crew. “Everyone was shocked and confused to see cameras following us around,” said Katie, but the locals have started to warm to the idea. “Now it seems like a lot of people are trying to get in front of the cameras and having fun with it,” Joey added.

The gang is loud and proud about loving their hometown, and most can’t imagine leaving. But…

“I love West Virginia and would never leave,” Joey said, “but if I did [live somewhere else], it would be Sydney, Australia.” Why Down Under? “Because they have eight out of 10 of the most venomous snakes in the world.”

OK then.

Katie, on the other hand, has her sights set on Beantown—and for a more practical reason: “I’m a sucker for Boston accents.”

The Buckwild finale, featuring two back-to-back episodes, will air Thursday, February 7, at 10:00 PM ET/PT on MTV.
