Finale with Snoop and MTV Africa All Stars 2013Last weekend a music event of epic proportions hit Durban, capital of KwaZulu-Natal Province in South Africa. MTV did what only MTV can do, bringing a record-breaking show to town to film the next installment in its globe-trotting live music franchise, World Stage.

MTV Africa All Stars KwaZulu-Natal with Snoop Lion saw nine of the biggest names in African music come together for an unforgettable night of music, fun, dancing (twerking) and surprises, headlined by none other than everyone’s favourite rapper-turned-Rasta, Snoop Lion.

The ecstatic, 12,000-strong crowd had gathered from right across sub-Saharan Africa and indeed the world to see the superstars of African music ascend the same stage for the first time ever. And the lineup certainly gave them what they came for.

From the sweet sounds of songbird Zahara, to the chic AfroPop of Zakes Bantwini, not to mention the smooth grooves of Fally Ipupa, the powerful hits of 2Face and favourites from multi-award winning Nigerian superstar D’Banj, People’s Park at Moses Mabhida Stadium was filled with glorious rhythms, smiles, laughs and some fancy footwork, as the crowd partied the night away like only Africans can.

Performing a set of his biggest hits alongside his new Reincarnated Rasta anthems, the Lion king himself Snoop brought the night to a close with an hour-long set, but not before inviting each and every one of the Africa All Stars back to the stage for a final farewell.

An epic show, an amazing achievement for our team in Africa and an unforgettable night for music fans across the continent, we certainly hope the first MTV Africa All Stars event won’t be the last.

MTV World Stage Snoop Lion will air across MTV channels worldwide from Friday 28 June and a special extended version featuring the Africa All Stars will air from September.
