Viacom’s AIDS Walk Team joined approximately 30,000 committed participants for the 28th annual AIDS Walk in New York City’s Central Park this past May. Braving the rain showers – walkers completed the 10-kilometer walk to benefit the leading AIDS organization, GMHC and more than 40 other dynamic AIDS service organizations throughout the tri-state area. Recently wrapping up an extended fundraising push the team raised over $19,000.
Championed by Human Resources’ Employee Events group and the Office of Global Inclusion – Team Viacom was 75 members strong. Viacom has a long standing history with the AIDS Walk as a Corporate Sponsor of the event and over the years Viacom has held Gold Team status as one of the top 20 fundraising teams in New York City for the annual walk.
Emerge, Viacom’s LGBT Employee Affinity Group provided support recruiting walkers and assisting with fundraising. Some of the fundraising efforts included an iPad raffle, an online silent auction and a SWAG / DVD sale in the Lodge on which generated over $2,000.
Emerge also held an offsite networking and fundraising event to build momentum for donations. Staying Alive, MTV’s HIV prevention foundation was also actively involved with the event and promotion.
