An eventful week for Comedy Central — after the successful premiere of the Franco Roast on Monday, the network welcomed Jon Stewart back to his post on The Daily Show last night.
After John Oliver and Stephen Colbert welcomed Stewart back in a skit, Stewart referenced some of the stories he missed this summer – from Paula Deen to Anthony Weiner. Stewart then showed his dexterity at delivering serious news as well as funny — the first guest on his return, rather than a buzzy celeb, was Andrew Harper, head of the U.N.’s relief effort in Jordan, where 2 million Syrians refugees are currently situated.
Back after his summer hiatus, which he took to focus on directing Rosewater, Stewart assured his audience of how much he’d missed them, whispering, “I’ve missed you so much. You don’t know what it’s like in the real world. Nobody applauds every stupid thing that you do.”
