Viacom Music Group Senior Vice President of Music Strategy Shannon Connolly appeared on Bloomberg Television’s “Market Makers” last week to introduce the MTV Artists app and to discuss the network’s focus on mobile strategy. The new MTV Artists iPhone app connects fans and artists, and its effortless, simple usability sets it apart from other music-oriented mobile apps, according to Connolly. With music moving to new platforms, this app was designed to serve the music fan in three key ways:
- The starting point for fans to discover new music and artists, drafting off the way fans already experience music today (through sound ID, lyrics and search)
- A hub to learn and establish a connection with artists
- A daily destination for exclusive content directly from artists and MTV
“My absolute favorite thing is the lyric search because I hate that moment when you think of a song and you can’t remember who sang it,” Connolly told Bloomberg TV. Surely other music fans will appreciate the app’s music identification tool in addition to having artist information and content in one place.
