After a restless 24-hour competition, 24 unsigned bands lit up the stage at Brooklyn’s Liberty Warehouse for the opportunity to become music’s next superstar. Countless hours of rehearsing, travel and performances paid off for New York natives Fancy Reagan as the judges crowned them winners of “You Oughta Know,” VH1’s music discovery franchise. Since its launch in 2005, the program has served as a barometer for what and who’s hot in music today.
Fancy Reagan, an instant crowd favorite, came in on top winning the Make a Band Famous competition and receiving an exclusive recording agreement with Republic Records.
What’s better than a lively audience, a venue with scenic views of New York City, and mentorship from the music industry’s most talented artists and producers? Fancy Reagan thrived in Thursday night’s finale as Jason Krebs, Chris Tsaganeas, Rich Fuchs, bassist Bobby Kay, and vocalist Sean Michael Murray performed two songs including the melodic “You Got It.”
“The talent here is amazing—the performers haven’t slept and are still so incredible just giving their all,” said VH1’s Big Morning Buzz Live host Ellie Lee who’s been following the #MABF action from start to finish hosting the 24-hour VH1 live stream.
A panel of celebrity judges including international pop star Natasha Beddingfield, Musical Director/Producer Adam Blackstone, Youtube Music Star Kurt Hugo Schneider and Indie Artist/Composer Robert Schwartzman provided critiques and commentary for every challenge during the event. Mentors included Gym Class Heroes lead singer Travie McCoy, Daughtry frontman Chris Daughtry, and Songwriter/Solo Artist and Producer Bonnie McKee.
Since its launch in 2005, VH1’s “You Oughta Know” franchise has introduced fresh talent and continues to bring promising new artists to light. Over the years, the highly acclaimed franchise has helped break artists such as Adele, Ed Sheeran, Foster the People, Goyte, The Lumineers, Mumford & Sons, The Civil Wars, and many, many more.
