Viacom employees flooded their followers’ newsfeeds with more than 1,800 Twitter and Instagram posts flooded on May 15, answering our call to share their Viacommunity Day experiences with the wider world using the #ViacommunityDay. As of our latest count, this lead to 31,500 likes, comments and shares – more than 2.6 times last year’s engagement.
We’re sending one of these socially engaged Viacom volunteers to this year’s VMAs. Katie Maggio, senior manager of product optimization and a lifelong animal lover, spent the day tending to pups at Bideawee, a pet welfare organization in New York (click through to their site if you really love animal pics). Her and a handful of colleauges helped clean the facility, made blankets and toys for the animals, and spent time playing with a half dozen puppies.
This was Maggio’s first Viacommunity Day. “I was so impressed when I joined Viacom last year that there was this initiative that encouraged employees from all across the world to take a break from their routine to give back to a cause that they care about,” she said.
She now has a trip on us to the Aug. 30 VMAs at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles to look forward to. “I’m so excited,” Maggio said. “When I joined Viacom, I dreamed that I’d have the opportunity to attend the VMAs, but I wasn’t sure how it was going to happen. Now that it’s coming to fruition, this seems too good to be true.”
