Viacom, Operation Goody Bag Honor Soldiers and First Responders on 9/11

At Viacom, we have consistently partnered with the 911 Day Organization to honor the thousands who lost their lives and the millions impacted on Sept. 11, 2001, starting with our hometown of New York City. This year, as a part of our Viacommunity efforts, Viacom employees packed goody bags to send to U.S. soldiers through our partner, Operation Goody Bag.

In 2003, Jane Cosco created Operation Goody Bag with a desire to contribute to Sept. 11 relief efforts. For her efforts, former President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush presented Cosco with the Call of Service Award.

Each colored and decorated Operation Goody Bag brown bag is filled with candy, inspirational notes, and other forms of encouragement. The organization has sent more than 350,000 of these packages to first responders and soldiers and connected more than 700,000 people through their efforts.

Employees spent Sept. 11 stuffing and sending bags to first responders and soldiers to express our gratitude for their service, with a goal of filling 5,000 goody bags in two hours. The team accomplished their mission in just an hour and a half.
