Mobile moves the world lately. Or stops it – you can barely walk down a New York street anymore without getting stuck behind an iPhone-gazing sleepwalker stopping up pedestrian traffic. But it’s tough to blame them – there’s just so much good stuff to see that it can be hard to look up.
It’s not going to get any easier as more and more creators turn their focus to mobile, a continuous dynamic process that reaches a networking crescendo each year at the Mobile World Congress, where more than 100,000 attendees see what’s keeping people on the move, now and in the future.
As the event wraps up tomorrow in Barcelona, we wanted to give you a snapshot of how we’re working to improve the tiny global world that we nearly all cart around in our pockets. Viacom is pushing hard into mobile – and as smartphones become ubiquitous across the globe, our Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) are offering fans more ways to access more content whenever and wherever they want it.
Just a few highlights, which VIMN President and CEO Bob Bakish recently shared with his team:
- Our Play Plex apps are already available in more than 40 markets across Latin America, Europe, Australia, the Middle East and more.
- At the beginning of February we launched Nick Play in Norway, Poland, Sweden and Denmark. It peaked at the number one overall position in the iTunes store in Norway and Poland, and held the top spot in Entertainment in Denmark.
- MTV Play became the number one free app in Mexico just 24 hours after MTV Super Shore premiered, beating out some big names. And, in less than a week, Super Shore generated more than 3 million streams on the MTV Play app.
