Putting the Monsters in Monster Trucks

Stuart Winchester by Stuart Winchester, Viacom

And you were expecting a 15-foot-tall, supped-up, Bigfoot-style behemoth launching over a line of cars?

Impressive as that is, it’s a three-decade-old idea. Paramount Pictures Monster Trucks is completely original and not at all what you’re expecting, as you’ll see in the recently released trailer for the film, which due out in January 2017.

So check it out for yourself, and decide, is the monster truck, “something unusual, something dangerous,” as one character ominously declares, or is it “awesome,” and “smart,” as teenager Tripp (Lucas Till) claims? The trailer gives a rollicking, selfie-taking, science-exploring race through a family-friendly, entertaining environment.

And, yes, there is in fact jumping over cars. But also buildings, and, incredibly, mountains. You’ve just got to watch it.
