Take a Look at the Aliens, Parties, Monsters and More That Are Barreling Toward Your Local Theater

Paramount Pictures has had a strong first half of 2016, with critical favorites Everybody Wants Some and 10 Cloverfield Lane dropping before a pair of hit sequels – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows and Star Trek Beyond – made strong debuts in June and July, respectively. Florence Foster Jenkins, starring Meryl Street and Hugh Grant, hits theaters this Friday, followed by Ben-Hur on Aug. 19.

The studio has plenty more on the way to wrap 2016 and launch into 2017. Jack Reacher returns. Aliens arrive. Brad Pitt returns to World War II Europe. The office Christmas party goes epic. Monster trucks come alive. And Xander Cage spins wildly back in the most extreme ways imaginable.

First up:

Tom Cruise – who has also starred in all five of Paramount’s Mission: Impossible films and will return for a sixth in 2017 –  returns as the indomitable drifter Jack Reacher. Director Edward Zwick melds Cruise with fellow cast members Cobie Smolders, Aldis Hodge and Danika Yarosh in this wild thriller.

ARRIVAL – NOV. 11, 2016

So far, we only have this teaser trailer for Arrival, but it is a mesmerizing bit of breathless drama, vacuuming us into a world in which alien craft have swept ominously into our atmosphere. A tense planet waits while a team of specialists led by linguist Louise Banks (Amy Adams) boards one of their vessels and braces for contact across an otherworldly threshold.  Director Denis Villeneuve joins Adams, Jeremy Renner and Forest Whitaker in this compelling film.

ALLIED – NOV. 23, 2016

We don’t have a trailer yet for Allied, but we can say that Robert Zemeckis will direct a cast that includes Brad Pitt, Marion Cotillard and Lizzy Caplan in this World War II-era film. [Update, the trailer is here!]

Brad Pitt plays Max Vatan and Marion Cotillard plays Marianne Beausejour in Allied from Paramount Pictures.

Jennifer Aniston is here to shut the company down. Just about everyone else – Jason Bateman, T.J. Miller, Kate McKinnon, Jillian Bell, Courtney B. Vance, Vanessa Bayer, Jamie Chung – is on a mission to save it. Their business strategy? The most out-of-hand Christmas party in history. Will they impress their huge potential client, or just burn the joint down? Directors Josh Gordon and Will Speck already know, but the rest of us will have to wait until Dec. 9 to find out.

Who needs snow to ski? Or land to ride a motorcycle? Or guns to win a firefight? Xander Cage (Vin Diesel), most certainly does not. This full-throttle follow-up to the first two XXX films, directed by DJ Caruso, features Donnie Yen, Deepika Padukone, Toni Collette, Ruby Rose, Nina Dobrev, Tony Jaa and Samuel L. Jackson.
