Trevor Noah Returns Home to Host MTV Music Awards in Johannesburg

Trevor Noah has more to celebrate than just his first anniversary as host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show. The South Africa native will head back to his hometown of Johannesburg to host the sixth MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) on Saturday, Oct. 22.

“I’m a huge fan of African music and achievement,” said Noah. “And it’s going to be a massive pleasure celebrating them both at the MTV Africa Music Awards 2016 in my own home town of Johannesburg.”

Noah follows an impressive list of notables to host this celebration of African music and culture, including Wyclef Jean, Eve, Marlon Wayans, Anthony Anderson and Trevor Nelson.

Since they debuted in Durban, South Africa, in 2008, the MAMAs have become one of MTV’s most energetic international events. Here’s a look back at last year’s show:

2016 has been a big year overall for Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa, which recently earned The Rookie of the Year Award at London’s Vision Critical 2016 EMEA Summit.

MTV and MTV Base will broadcast live at from the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg, South Africa. Partner stations and content platforms will offer the show for those who don’t catch it live (or want to see it again). Here’s a little preview:
