We’ll take time to honor one of the greats
Allman Brothers Band legend Gregg Allman passed away on May 27. He won Grammys, earned a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and helped cast the die that so much of American music was formed in. CMT will honor him at the show tonight, with a tribute featuring former Allman Brothers Band guitarist Derek Trucks, Jason Aldean, Darius Rucker, Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley and Derek Trucks.
“Gregg Allman and The Allman Brothers Band helped create the bedrock foundation of modern southern music,” said CMT President Brian Philips. “Over the weekend of his death, CMT’s most important artists reached out to see how we might honor Gregg at our Awards. This tribute will celebrate Gregg Allman’s soul, charisma and enduring artistry. ‘The Road Goes on Forever’, indeed.”
