As web designer for CMT, Brandy Byrd creates amazingly fresh and inventive digital designs for CMT.com and mobile, and supports the brand’s social marketing efforts.
Though Brandy Byrd, web designer for CMT, doesn’t like to talk about herself much, her colleagues can’t help but rave about CMT’s “most versatile web designer.” Brandy not only creates amazingly fresh and inventive digital designs for all of CMT, but she also excels at creating progressive wireframes for the .com and mobile teams. And though it’s beyond the scope of her day-to-day responsibilities, Brandy works with CMT’s social marketing team to define, design, research and even code apps and social features for the brand.
She’s also a music lover, and though she personally describers herself as “camera shy,” she’s an avid photographer who loves to travel. “I do take a lot of photos when I travel, or when I see something that catches my eye, or inspires me,” she says. Here’s what else this self-taught, left- and right-brained rising star has to say.
What’s a typical day like for you?
Coffee. Job requests. Coffee. Annoy coworkers. repeat. I design graphics that are used online, design and wireframe our microsites (for events like the CMT Awards, etc.), Facebook tabs, marketing banners. Right now, for example, I am working on my ideas for our holiday card, so I am coming up with designs for the printed card, the animated digital card, the social networking component — maybe a Facebook game.
What’s the best part of your job?
The people I work with. Hands down. I learn something from them everyday.
How did you become so design savvy and how did you learn how to code?
I just kind of taught myself. I hit “view source” on a website once, then just tried to figure it all out from there.
What CMT project are you most proud of having completed?
Not sure if I could name a particular project, but I get a warm feeling in my belly when our social team challenges me and I can help them out.
What inspires you, design-wise? Life-wise?
Everything and everyone.
