5 Questions With VidCon Co-Founder and Chairman Hank Green

VidCon, the world’s biggest conference for online video, was held from June 22 – 24, and Viacom showed up in a big way. Paramount Network hosted a panel on the power of storytelling. Nickelodeon held activations around Double Dare and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, plus a special appearance by JoJo Siwa. MTV, BET, Comedy Central and Velocity were also represented. Additionally, Viacom held a panel on the power of youth to create change to debut Viacom’s new global pro-social initiative, Generation Change. For this 5 Questions, we spoke to VidCon co-founder and chairman Hank Green to hear about the vision behind the event and where it’s headed next.

Nick’s Strong Programming Run Grows Deep Roots With Albert

by Stuart Winchester, Viacom

Nick keeps rolling with its original movies this fall, first with the new Legends of the Hidden Temple dropping on Thanksgiving weekend, and now with Albert, which will feature the voices of Saturday Night Live’s Bobby Moynihan, Sasheer Zamata and Cheri Oteri:

The adventurous anthropomorphic  pine tree  bounces into towering forests, stows away in the back of a highway-charging truck, and even hitches a ride on a helicopter as  his rollicking band of fellow flora take on an unlikely gang of snowbound cactii.

Nick has been steamrolling along lately, spending five consecutive quarters as the top net for kids 2-11 and 2-5 behind hit shows such as The Loud House (which was renewed for a third season before the second even aired), Henry Danger and Blaze and the Monster MachinesThe network owns 12 of the top 20 shows on cable for the same demos, and recently announced that a 30th anniversary special commemorating its much-loved Double Dare will air later this month.

Albert will air Friday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. ET.

Viacom brands Conquer Comic-Con International

There’s been a lot of convention activity recently, and it hasn’t all been political. Comic-Con, the annual international pop culture conference, was held in San Diego from Thursday, July 21 to Sunday, July 24.

Comic-Con is a splendor of fantasy, a place that celebrates animation, cartoons, and most of all, fans. Viacom is well-acquainted with the concept of putting fans first. Our diverse content gives us the widest breadth of fan-kind in the industry. There’s no better example of this than at Comic-Con.

Our Nickelodeon exposition entertained young fans with a floor-to-ceiling booth featuring a collage of characters from SpongeBob SquarePants, Invader Zim, and The Ren and Stimpy Show. Our werewolf-romance aficionados were satiated by MTV’s Teen Wolf panel, and adult fans were able to literally insert themselves into the fictional universe of Comedy Central’s South Park as the show ramps up for its 20th anniversary in September .
