The Stars, Stunts, and Slime of Nickelodeon’s 2017 Kids’ Choice Awards

Orange blimps invaded Los Angeles, along with a deluge of slime, stars, and surprises, for the 28th annual Kids’ Choice Awards earlier this month.

Nickelodeon’s 2017 Kids’ Choice Awards juxtaposed beloved mainstays (green goo, orange blimps, and celebrity guests) with cutting-edge elements. Stars shot out of an orange slide to get onstage. A drone circled the audience at the University of Southern California’s Galen Center, affixed to an orange blimp, snapping shots of fans and posting them to a second screen in the arena. A “live set” of real kids posing as stage props capped off the ultimate fans-first experience.

WWE star John Cena hosted the extravaganza, getting the chance to flex his muscles in an arm wrestling contest with the cast of Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn. This was one of many stunts chosen by the kids watching at home on Nick’s multiplatform, digital voting system.

by Stuart Winchester, Viacom

When Dwayne Johnson announced Spike’s Rock the Troops special at the 2015 Guys Choice Awards, he set expectations pretty high.rock-the-troops-logo-398x258

“I’m going to partner with Spike,” he said at the time, poised on the ice-and-antler-bedecked California stage before dozens of U.S. service members. “And we are going to put on the single greatest, most electrifying military entertainment show the world has ever seen.”

He wasn’t kidding. Now that Spike has released details about the event, it looks more spectacular than we could have imagined.

Kevin hart, Jack Black, Keegan Michael-Key, Rob Riggle, Scott Eastwood and Terry Crews will be there. Nick Jonas, Flo Rida, Tenacious D, Lynyrd Skynrd, Aaron Lewis, and more will perform. It will all happen at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Hawaii, a sprawling and iconic nexus of two branches of the U.S. armed forces.

The 2016 MTV Movie Awards: A Night of Movie Magic

The MTV Movie Awards came back for the 25th year in a row to celebrate the movies you’ve actually seen. This year’s show began in apocalyptic style, with hosts Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart riding down the red carpet on a flaming car adorned with skulls and scrap metal. An entourage of ghastly warriors marched ahead, wielding assorted weapons and leering at the crowd.

The parade from the underworld paid homage to 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road—and kicked off a bold night of pyrotechnics, paparazzi, and Golden Popcorn.
