A Devine Choice to Host MTV Movie & TV Awards, Nominees Announced

Stuart Winchester by Stuart Winchester, Viacom

MTV has woven the film, TV and digital realms into one broad content domain that houses the 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards nominees. The net – which for the first time is expanding the iconic show outside the cinema – also announced that the star of the long-running Comedy Central hit Workaholics Adam Devine will host the May 7 spectacular.

Devine is a veteran of the Golden Popcorn spotlight, having won an award for Best Kiss with Rebel Wilson in Pitch Perfect 2 last year. He is also nominated for Best Comedic Performance for his role on the seventh and final season of Workaholics.

The platform-agnostic categories include a few additions and some tweaks of long-running show standards. “Best Fight” is now “Best Fight the System” – to acknowledge social justice activism – while “Best Actor” and “Best Actress” have ditched their gender designations to morph into “Best Actor in a Movie” and “Best Actor in a Show.” New categories include “Best American Story,” “Tearjerker,” “Best Host,” “Best Reality Competition” and “Next Generation.”

Nominated Viacom brands include VH1 for RuPaul’s Drag Race – which earned nominations for Best Host and Best Reality Competition – and for Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party (best duo). Comedy Central’s Trevor Noah is also competing for Best Host, while Ilana Glazer & Abbi Jacobson of Broad City are nominated alongside Devine for Best Comedic Performance. Spike’s TIME: The Kalief Browder Story is in the running for Best Documentary.

Check Out This Video Calendar of Viacom’s Upcoming Premieres

Stuart Winchester by Stuart Winchester, Viacom

There’s a whole lot coming up at Viacom over the next few months.

Paramount sends aliens hurtling from the cosmos and Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard back to World War II. Denzel Washington and Viola Davis dazzle in Fences while Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman burn down the city in Office Christmas Party.

Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg team up on VH1really – for what is likely to be the dopest cooking show around. America’s Next Top Model returns to the same net. We wave goodbye to MTV’s Teen Wolf, but meet a pair of bad-ass campus vigilantes on Sweet/Vicious.

Original content continues to rule across our networks, from TV Land’s smash hit Younger to CMT’s January debut of Nashville to BET’s Being Mary Jane and New Edition biopic. Spike delivers some hard truth with a documentary on the tragic story of Kalief Browder.

And more favorites keep pouring back in: RuPaul returns with season six of RuVealed on Logo while The Daily Show With Trevor Noah and @Midnight continue their runs on Comedy Central.

And for the kiddos, Nick keeps the incredible stuff coming with Albert and Rusty Rivetsalong with a nostalgic run back to the 90s with a Legends of the Hidden Temple movie.

University of Wisconsin Students Choose Anders Holm to Speak at Commencement

Daina Amorosano by Daina Amorosano, Viacom

anders-holm-bottle-caps

Workaholics Anders Holm — only 10 years the senior of the graduating class — is returning to the University of Wisconsin-Madison to deliver the commencement address for his alma mater this May 17, 18 and 19. Fittingly, the show for which he writes and acts addresses and sheds a hilarious light on the post-college transition to adulthood (and is as relatable to the college set as it is outrageous).  Chosen by the senior class, the writer/actor should have some interesting/inspiring insights about his path from Madison to breakout success… and some very funny anecdotes, at the least. Looking forward to watching video of this speech next month! Read More
